Project period: 2004-2005

A project by the Swedish women’s organisation Kvinnoforum, sponsored in the European Program against Poverty and Social Exclusion.

The aim is the establishment of a Germany-wide network against violence in the name of honour. In addition, three full-day meetings took place including representatives from politics, schools, police, youth offices and counselling organisations. Further, there were expert conferences in Stockholm, Utrecht, Glasgow and Cyprus.

Additionally, further education courses about violence in the name of honour were held in Berlin for the Berlin police and staff of the Berlin Anti-violence projects.

Project period: 2001 – 2002

An internet project of the University of Nottingham.

The three projects, which operate in practice interviewed clients about their life situations and their experience with violence and created five anonymised curriculum vitae ( life stories) and put them online. The University of Nantes provided the technical expertise for dealing with the Internet.

In conclusion an exchange of experience took place between countries with conferences in Amsterdam, Paris and Nottingham, which enabled wider public dissemination. The goal was to sensitise expert staff about the situations and experiences of their clients.

Project period: 1999-2000

The project consisted of nine partner organisations from Germany, Great Britain, France, Sweden, Spain, Austria and Turkey, which specialised in offering help to girls with a special need for protection.

The staff of Papatya undertook study trips to the partner countries to learn about the debates on migration there, their youth help systems as well as their special offers of help for girls with migration backgrounds.

After that a week-long seminar in Berlin was held with 30 staff from all the participating countries as well as an expert conference with 300 participants. The focus was networking and exchange of effective support.

This enabled the establishment of the “Berlin Working Group against Forced Marriage”, which still operates today.

Project period: 1997-1998

Our first EU project in the brand new Daphne Program of the European Commission: Papatya was the lead organisation.

Two staff members from Papatya visited protection centres in France, Netherlands and Turkey and spoke with colleagues there about our target groups and the possibilities to support and protect them.

Following that, 10 colleagues from abroad attended a five-day seminar in Berlin, inspected the crisis centre Papatya, the Berlin Youth Emergency Service as well as counselling centres and women’s refuges.

In conclusion an expert event was held with over 200 participants, whose conclusions were documented in a brochure.
